Hey There!

Hope everyone is enjoying the recent warm weather. We appreciate all who came out to the last neighborhood meeting. It was fun to see new and old faces and have some lively discussion. One question asked was about the police non-emergency contact information. Should you need to contact the police department you can reach them at: 309-673-4521. Additionally, you can send anonymous tips to the department by texting the keyword PEORIAPD along with your tip to 847411. If you prefer you can also send your tip using the online form at: https://il-peoria.civicplus.com/372/Tip411.

Another hot topic during the meeting was related to misplaced mail. One helpful suggestion was for folks to sign up for Informed Delivery. This is a service provided by the post office where you receive an emailed photo of your mail before it arrives. You can sign up for the service at: https://www.usps.com/manage/informed-delivery.htm. If you would like to reach out to the post office about missing mail, our branch is located at 715 W Glen Ave.

The Bigelow committee would like to announce they will be having their meeting on March 20th. If you would like to participate, please reach out to Colleen Halberg at colleenr64@comcast.net or by phone at 309-472-5595. The committee would like to thank all of those that have signed up for Taylor’s Way lawn services. Because of you we were able to reach at least 10 subscribers to receive free treatment of the boulevard.

Finally, we have been granted an extension for our mini-grant application so we can discuss it in our April meeting. This program helped provide funding for our neighborhood signs last year, and is coming back in 2024. The maximum size for the grant is $5000 and can be applied to neighborhood enhancements and community building such as:

  • Security cameras
  • Block parties
  • Tree-plantings (non-fruit bearing) and landscaping
  • Public space improvements such as benches, picnic tables, shelters, or pergolas
  • Outreach
  • Placemaking
  • Public art

If you have any ideas you would like to see the grant applied to, please bring them to the meeting in April, and if you can’t make it feel free to send your ideas to nfnamail@northflorence.org.

Quarterly Joke

Why can’t you use “Beef stew” as a password? Because it’s not stroganoff.

Quarterly Poem

What Little Things!

By Madison Julius Cawein
From “One Day and Another”

What little things are those
That hold our happiness!
A smile, a glance, a rose
Dropped from her hair or dress;
A word, a look, a touch,
These are so much, so much.

An air we can’t forget;
A sunset’s gold that gleams;
A spray of mignonette,
Will fill the soul with dreams
More than all history says,
Or romance of old days.

For of the human heart,
Not brain, is memory;
These things it makes a part
Of its own entity;
The joys, the pains whereof
Are the very food of love.
